Role Description
M. Hedayat & Associates, P.C. is seeking a full-time, on-site Paralegal for our Bolingbrook, Illinois office.
We are looking for a well-rounded, experienced paralegal with strong litigation skills and substantial legal-document drafting ability. This is not a position limited to one practice area. The successful candidate will assist attorneys and the firm's existing paralegal team with a broad range of civil and commercial litigation, corporate, bankruptcy, probate, real estate, construction, and transactional matters.
The position will be litigation-focused, and the ideal candidate should be comfortable working with attorneys on active litigation matters from initial case development through discovery, motion practice, and resolution. The candidate should also be comfortable assisting with transactional and probate matters as needed.
A significant component of this position will involve drafting, reviewing, organizing, and preparing substantive legal documents under attorney supervision. The ideal candidate should be able to take direction from an attorney, understand the purpose and substance of the assignment, conduct appropriate research or factual investigation, and produce a well-organized and accurate draft.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting attorneys with civil and commercial litigation matters from case intake through resolution.
- Drafting and preparing substantive legal documents, including pleadings, motions, discovery, affidavits, notices, correspondence, memoranda, and other litigation documents.
- Assisting with the preparation and organization of complaints, answers, counterclaims, motions, briefs, petitions, responses, and supporting documents under attorney supervision.
- Conducting legal and factual research to assist attorneys in preparing litigation and transactional documents.
- Assisting with discovery, including drafting and reviewing interrogatories, requests for production, requests to admit, discovery responses, subpoenas, document productions, and related materials.
- Reviewing and organizing large volumes of documents and identifying relevant information, inconsistencies, missing information, and potential issues.
- Preparing exhibits, deposition materials, hearing materials, trial materials, and other documents necessary for litigation.
- Assisting with court filings and e-filing, service of process, summonses, notices, certificates, affidavits, and related procedural matters.
- Monitoring case deadlines, court dates, discovery deadlines, and other important dates.
- Assisting attorneys with bankruptcy matters, including preparation and organization of petitions, schedules, pleadings, motions, notices, and supporting documentation.
- Assisting with probate and estate matters, including preparation of petitions, notices, inventories, accountings, correspondence, court filings, and other estate-related documentation.
- Assisting with corporate and commercial matters, including preparation and organization of contracts, corporate documents, business records, and transaction materials.
- Assisting with real estate and construction matters, including due diligence, closing documentation, mechanics' lien matters, and related filings.
- Coordinating with clients, opposing counsel, courts, governmental agencies, title companies, lenders, contractors, and other third parties.
- Obtaining signatures, coordinating notarizations, maintaining records, and tracking outstanding documentation.
- Maintaining accurate and organized electronic and physical matter files.
- Assisting the firm's existing paralegals with their caseloads and providing support and coverage across the firm's various practice areas.
- Managing multiple matters simultaneously while prioritizing deadlines and attorney requests.
- Performing other paralegal and legal support duties as necessary.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be a versatile and experienced paralegal who is comfortable with substantive legal work, particularly litigation, and who is capable of working across multiple practice areas.
Candidates should have:
- Prior experience as a paralegal in a law firm or legal department, with significant litigation experience preferred.
- Strong experience preparing and drafting substantive legal documents.
- Familiarity with civil litigation procedures, discovery, pleadings, motion practice, court filings, and litigation deadlines.
- Strong legal and factual research abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines simultaneously.
- The ability to review complex documents and identify important facts, inconsistencies, and missing information.
- The ability to work independently while also working closely with attorneys and other paralegals.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with legal practice-management software, document-management systems, electronic filing systems, and other legal technology.
- Professional judgment and the ability to maintain client confidentiality and comply with professional and ethical obligations.
- An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in paralegal studies or a related field is preferred; paralegal certification is a plus.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for a team-oriented, adaptable paralegal who wants to be involved in substantive legal work and is not limited to a single area of practice.
The primary focus of this position will be civil and commercial litigation and substantive legal-document preparation, but our firm's practice is diverse. The successful candidate should therefore be comfortable assisting with matters involving litigation, corporate law, bankruptcy, probate and estates, real estate, construction, mechanics' liens, and commercial transactions.
A candidate whose experience is concentrated in one practice area is welcome to apply; however, the ability and willingness to learn new areas of law, assist other members of the paralegal team, and transition between litigation and non-litigation matters is essential.
The ideal candidate is someone who can receive an assignment from an attorney, understand what is being requested, conduct the necessary research or factual review, and produce a thorough, organized, accurate, and professional work product.
This position will work closely with the firm's existing paralegal team and is intended to strengthen and supplement that team. We are looking for someone who is willing to take ownership of assigned tasks, assist where needed, and contribute to the overall efficiency of the office.
