Part-Time Challenge Course Facilitator

Job Title: Part-Time Adventure Staff

Location: St. Columba Episcopal Camp & Retreat Center, Memphis TN

Position Type: Part-Time / Seasonal

Compensation: $15/ hour (Paid training provided)

We are seeking energetic, safety-minded Part-Time Challenge Course Facilitators to join our team for the upcoming retreat season. In this role, you will lead groups through outdoor adventure experiences, including ziplines, high/low ropes courses, and climbing towers.

Responsibilities

  • Group Facilitation: Guide diverse participant groups through team-building initiatives, low ropes elements, and high challenge course activities.
  • Safety & Risk Management: Conduct daily safety inspections of gear and course elements, perform proper belay and harness checks, and strictly enforce all safety protocols.
  • Participant Support: Deliver clear safety briefings, offer encouragement, and manage physical and emotional safety (challenge-by-choice philosophy).
  • Course Operations: Assist with gear distribution, fitting, sanitization, and basic course setup and teardown.

Qualifications

  • Height & Physical Comfort: Comfortable working at significant heights and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and perform physical tasks related to belaying and equipment handling.
  • Background Check: Must pass a required background check prior to employment.
  • Availability: Flexible schedule including weekend and evening availability during peak retreat seasons.

Preferred Experience & Skills

  • Prior experience with challenge courses, ziplining, rock climbing, or outdoor recreation.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and group management skills.
  • Active First Aid / CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Current ACCT Level 1, Level 2, or Course Manager Certification
