Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Registered Nurse
Minneapolis, MN | Saint Paul, MN | Harrisburg, PA | On-Site | Full-Time
The role
A NICU Registered Nurse provides specialized nursing care to some of the most vulnerable patients in medicine — premature, critically ill, and medically fragile newborns. This isn't a background role. You're at the bedside, reading subtle changes in an infant's color, tone, and rhythm before the monitors catch up. You're also the steadying presence for families in one of the most frightening experiences of their lives.
What you'll do
- Continuously assess newborns' vital signs, respiratory status, oxygen saturation, and neurological condition — and act on what you find.- Provide hands-on care for premature and low-birth-weight infants, including those on complex medical regimens.- Administer medications, IV fluids, parenteral and enteral nutrition, and other prescribed treatments accurately and safely.- Manage and monitor respiratory support: oxygen therapy, CPAP, high-flow, and mechanical ventilation.- Assist with bedside procedures and respond to emergencies quickly and calmly.- Track feeding tolerance, weight trends, fluid balance, and developmental milestones.- Operate and maintain incubators, warmers, infusion pumps, and neonatal monitoring equipment.- Deliver developmentally appropriate, family-centered care — positioning, skin-to-skin facilitation, noise and light management.- Educate and support parents and caregivers on their infant's condition, equipment, and home-care needs.- Collaborate closely with neonatologists, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, lactation consultants, and the broader neonatal team.- Maintain accurate, timely documentation and uphold strict neonatal safety and infection-control protocols.
Where you'll work
Positions are available across a range of NICU settings, including Level III and Level IV NICUs, children's hospitals, women's and children's hospitals, maternal-fetal medicine centers, academic and teaching hospitals, and regional acute-care facilities with specialized neonatal services.
About you
- Active, unrestricted RN license (required).- NICU or neonatal nursing experience preferred — new graduates with strong clinical rotations encouraged to apply.- Sharp assessment skills and the ability to think clearly under pressure.- BLS certification required; NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) required or must be obtained prior to start.- PALS may be required depending on the facility.- Commitment to evidence-based, family-centered care.
