About Living Arts Dance

Living Arts Dance, Inc. is an established Philadelphia dance school entering our 21st season of providing quality dance education and performance opportunities for young dancers. We provide a structured, supportive, and professional training environment where students develop strong technique, confidence, discipline, and artistry.

Position Overview

Living Arts Dance is seeking an experienced, dependable, and engaging Hip-Hop and/or Tap Dance Instructor to join our faculty.

We are looking for a teacher with a strong dance training background, excellent classroom management skills, and the ability to provide structured, progressive instruction to children and teens at varying levels.

This is not an entry-level teaching position. Candidates should have a solid technical foundation in their dance discipline and understand how to develop dancers beyond simply teaching choreography.

Required Availability

Candidates must be consistently available:

Fridays: 4:00 PM–8:00 PM
Saturdays: 8:30 AM–3:00 PM

Actual teaching hours within these time blocks will be determined based on class placement and enrollment.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Hip-Hop and/or Tap classes to children and teens at various ages and skill levels.
  • Provide structured classes that include warm-up, technique, skill development, combinations, and choreography.
  • Develop age-appropriate choreography for performances and our annual recital.
  • Create progressive lesson plans that build dancers' technique throughout the season.
  • Maintain strong classroom management while creating an encouraging and motivating environment.
  • Arrive prepared and on time for all scheduled classes.
  • Track student progress and communicate concerns or recommendations to the Director.
  • Prepare students for performances, rehearsals, and studio events.
  • Follow Living Arts Dance curriculum expectations, policies, and professional standards.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with students and families.
  • Work collaboratively with the Director and other faculty members.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3–5 years of formal or professional dance training required; 5+ years strongly preferred.
  • Strong technical training in Hip-Hop and/or Tap required.
  • Previous dance teaching experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience teaching children and teens preferred.
  • Ability to teach multiple ages and skill levels.
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.
  • Must be dependable, punctual, professional, and consistent.
  • Must be comfortable teaching both technique and choreography.
  • Performance, competition, collegiate, conservatory, or professional dance experience is a plus.
  • Ability to teach additional dance genres is a plus.

We are particularly interested in instructors who are looking for a consistent teaching home and long-term relationship with our studio, rather than short-term or substitute teaching opportunities.

To Apply

Please submit your résumé and a brief description of your dance training and teaching experience. Candidates are encouraged to include links to choreography, teaching, or performance footage if available.

Applicants should also confirm their availability for Friday evenings and Saturdays.
