Portfolio Valuation - Analyst

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Are you intellectually curious, comfortable working through complex financial questions and motivated by learning alongside others? As a Portfolio Valuation Analyst, you will combine financial analysis, research, communication and teamwork to help clients understand the value of investments that do not have readily observable market prices.

Portfolio Valuation Analysts provide valuation advisory services to the alternative investment community, including private equity and hedge funds, business development companies, pensions and endowments. You will support engagements involving illiquid and complex investment positions and help develop analyses that are independent, well-supported and clearly communicated.

As an analyst you will start your career in our Nashville office along with all other university analyst hires. During your first 18-24 months, you will participate in structured training, receive guidance from experienced professionals and build a strong foundation in portfolio valuation. Following this initial development period, you may have the opportunity to move to another Kroll office offering Portfolio Valuation services, including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Morristown, New York, San Francisco or Seattle.

 

  • Build and update financial models using discounted cash flow, market multiple, market transaction and option-pricing analyses 
  • Perform valuation analyses for illiquid debt, equity and other alternative investments across a range of industries and geographies using accepted valuation approaches and relevant financial theory 
  • Research companies, industries, capital markets and comparable transactions to identify information and assumptions relevant to each analysis 
  • Assist with the valuation of investments that may include debt securities, preferred and common equity, convertible securities, warrants, options, structured products, whole-loan pools and real estate 
  • Review financial statements, investment documents, portfolio-company information and market data to support valuation conclusions 
  • Participate in client discussions and meetings to gather financial, operational and investment-specific information relevant to the engagement 
  • Collaborate with colleagues to evaluate assumptions, resolve analytical questions and deliver accurate, high-quality work within engagement timelines 
  • Prepare clear workpapers, valuation schedules, written reports and presentation materials that explain the analysis and resulting conclusions 
  • Support projects involving individual investments, entire portfolios and reviews of clients’ valuation policies and practices 
  • Contribute to a strong client experience by communicating professionally, responding thoughtfully to feedback and working effectively with team members at all levels 
  • Attend relevant training programs and industry events to strengthen your technical knowledge and understanding of the alternative asset industry

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, Management, Engineering or a related analytical discipline from an accredited college or university; candidates in Engineering should have completed junior- or senior-level coursework in Accounting, Economics or Finance 
  • Graduation date between December 2026 and September 2027 
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher 
  • Foundational knowledge of corporate finance, accounting, economics, financial statement analysis or valuation developed through coursework, internships, student organizations or related experience 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, including the ability to organize data, perform calculations and present information clearly 
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, with an interest in understanding complex investments and financial questions 
  • Careful attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, well-supported work 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain analyses, ask thoughtful questions and incorporate feedback 
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, organize priorities and meet deadlines in a collaborative, fast-paced environment 
  • A team-focused and inclusive working style, with the ability to build consensus and work effectively with colleagues from different backgrounds and areas of expertise 
  • Intellectual curiosity, adaptability and a willingness to learn new valuation concepts, industries and investment structures 
  • Preferred: Previous internship, project, coursework or student-organization experience involving financial analysis, accounting, investments, economics, data analysis or business research 
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future
