About the Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic American Sign Language (ASL) Instructor to lead an engaging language enrichment program for students.

You'll introduce students to the fundamentals of ASL through interactive activities, conversation practice, games, and real-world scenarios. Students will build practical signing skills while developing confidence and an appreciation for communication, accessibility, and Deaf culture.

The goal isn't simply to teach signs. It's to make ASL approachable, useful, engaging, and meaningful for students.

You do not need to be a traditional classroom teacher or a professional interpreter to apply. We welcome candidates with different levels of teaching experience who have a strong foundation in ASL and can confidently guide students through beginner-level lessons.

What You'll Do

• Lead engaging and interactive ASL classes
• Introduce students to foundational signs, vocabulary, fingerspelling, and basic conversational skills
• Help students practice ASL through games, activities, conversations, and real-world scenarios
• Teach common phrases and everyday concepts using ASL
• Introduce age-appropriate elements of Deaf culture, communication, and accessibility
• Demonstrate signs clearly and provide supportive feedback
• Encourage students to participate and practice without fear of making mistakes
• Adapt instruction and activities to different learning styles and levels of experience
• Create a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful learning environment
• Encourage curiosity, participation, and confidence
• Maintain an organized and positive classroom environment
• Communicate professionally with program coordinators and school staff
• Arrive prepared, dependable, and ready to engage students

Qualifications

We're looking for someone who:

• Has a strong foundation and working knowledge of American Sign Language
• Can confidently teach beginner-level ASL concepts
• Can clearly demonstrate and explain signs
• Has an interest in ASL, communication, accessibility, or Deaf culture
• Is patient, enthusiastic, and encouraging
• Has strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Is comfortable leading and engaging groups of students
• Can adapt activities for different learning styles and experience levels
• Is reliable, professional, and organized
• Can follow provided curriculum while creating an engaging learning experience
• Values respectful and inclusive communication practices

You do not need to be a professional ASL instructor or interpreter to apply. Prior teaching experience and advanced ASL proficiency are welcome, but we also encourage candidates who have a solid foundation in ASL and are confident teaching beginner-level material.

Experience in ASL instruction, Deaf education, interpreting, teaching, tutoring, mentoring, camps, youth programs, or related fields is a plus but not required.
