Graduate Intern: Special Events

Supervisor: Coordinator, Programming & Special Events

Position Time: 19.5 hrs per week 

Compensation: $22/hour

Summary:

A graduate internship in the Center for Student Engagement (CSE) at Loyola University Chicago is an excellent opportunity for Graduate Students who want to gain experience in student development at a private,mid-sized, Jesuit institution. Reporting to the Coordinator of Programming & Special Events, the Graduate Intern will assist with Welcome Week planning and execution, assist in hiring and training the Welcome Week leaders, and conduct post-Welcome Week assessment. The Graduate Intern will also co-advise the Department of Programming (DOP), Loyola’s student programming board, and assist in planning special events within CSE. This position will require working some nights and weekends. The Graduate Intern for this position is required to be present on-campus during Welcome Week, starting in mid-August.

The Graduate Intern for Special Events will be able to:

  • Apply Jesuit mission& values to practical advising experience with student leaders, student organizations, & advisors;
  • Identify & utilize appropriate student development theories while executing programs & advising;
  • Use assessment to redefine goals and programming in order to meet the needs of students and strategic goals;
  • Interpret & accurately apply University policy & procedures; &
  • Conduct oneself with a high degree of professionalism, poise, confidence, and exercise sound judgment.

 

Graduate Intern Responsibilities Include:

  • Conduct and manage communication with campus partners.
  • Conduct assessments and evaluations of post-Welcome Week events.
  • Serve as co-adviser to the Department of Programming (DOP);
    • Facilitate monthly team-building and leadership development activities.
    • Attend and support DOP events, meetings, and activities.
    • Plan, implement, and facilitate semester retreats for the DOP executive board with the Executive Director and the Coordinator of Programming and Special Events.
    • Assist in management of financial paperwork and contracts with the Coordinator of Programming and Special Events.
  • Co-plan Special Events with the CSE office. These events include Fall and Spring Finals Breakfast and Senior Send-OffEvents. Opportunities to co-plan involve coordinating event logistics, assessment, and more.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in a graduate-level degree program, with preference for candidates enrolled in a program at Loyola University Chicago;
  • A desire to work with college students through advising, programming, assessment, advocacy, & Jesuit education;
  • Must be detail-oriented and reliable;
  • Proficiency with Word, Microsoft Excel, and other software like LUCommunity;
  • Skills in program planning, implementation, and evaluation;
  • Previous experience in Student Affairsand/or Student Activities/Organizations is preferred; and
  • Ability to work some night and weekend hours as needed.
