Position Overview

The Rumman Room is seeking a creative, organized, and detail-oriented Gallery & Exhibition Assistant Intern to work alongside our Gallery Manager in supporting exhibitions and artist programming.

This position provides hands-on experience in gallery administration, artist relations, exhibition preparation, artwork documentation, installation, and community arts programming.

The intern will assist with the organization and execution of rotating exhibitions while helping maintain accurate and professional artist and exhibition information.

Responsibilities

Artist Coordination

Assist with collecting artist bios, statements, artwork images, titles, dimensions, and exhibition information

Organize artist information and artwork records

Maintain accurate exhibition documentation

Assist with artist communication and follow-ups

Help maintain an organized artist database

Exhibition Preparation

Assist the Gallery Manager with exhibition preparation

Help organize artwork for upcoming exhibitions

Assist with artwork labeling and placement

Prepare exhibition signage and informational materials

Assist with installation and deinstallation

Help ensure gallery spaces are prepared for openings and exhibitions

Gallery Administration

Organize digital and physical exhibition files

Maintain exhibition schedules and deadlines

Assist with updating artist and exhibition information on the Rumman Room website

Help ensure artist information is accurate and current

Assist with organizing gallery records

Exhibition Documentation & Promotion

Assist with basic photography and documentation of exhibitions when needed

Gather artist and exhibition information for promotional materials

Coordinate accurate information with the Rumman Room Social Media and Graphic Design team

Assist in preparing artist and exhibition highlights

Gallery & Community Events

Assist during exhibition openings and artist receptions

Welcome guests and provide basic information about exhibitions

Support gallery programs, workshops, and community art events

Assist with event preparation and organization as needed

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who is:

Organized and highly detail-oriented

Reliable and responsible

Interested in art, galleries, exhibitions, or creative industries

Comfortable communicating with artists and the public

Professional and dependable

Able to work independently and collaboratively

Comfortable using Google Workspace and basic digital tools

Curious and eager to learn about gallery and exhibition practices

Preferred: Current college student, recent graduate, or emerging professional studying or interested in studio art, art history, interior design, graphic design, museum studies, arts administration, communications, or a related field.

Schedule

5–10 hours per week.

The schedule will be arranged around the intern's availability and exhibition needs. Some evening or weekend hours may be needed for exhibition openings, receptions, and special programs, with advance notice.

Compensation

$10.00 per hour

This is a paid, part-time internship. All hours worked will be compensated in accordance with applicable federal and North Carolina employment requirements.
