SCC Securities and Retail Franchising (SRF) Internship
$20 per hour
You: A student who has an interest in public service and would enjoy using your business and analysis skills to gain an understanding of the regulation of securities, broker dealers, broker dealer agents, investment advisors and their representatives.
As an intern, you will:
- Engage in REAL work that contributes to the public-service mission of the SCC,
- Work with and learn from senior staff members who are subject-matter experts in their fields,
- Perform assignments in support of the SRF division, and
- Participate in professional development and social activities with fellow SCC interns
Us: Located in downtown Richmond, the State Corporation Commission (SCC) is an independent state agency with regulatory authority over public utilities, insurance, state-chartered financial institutions, investment securities, retail franchising, and utility and railroad safety. The SCC strives to create a balanced playing field not only for consumers, but for companies as well.
The SRF division focuses on the regulation of securities, broker dealers, broker dealer agents, investment advisors and their representatives, and the registration of trademarks and service marks.
Securities and Retail Franchising (SRF) Intern
As a SRF Intern, you will gain an understanding of the work and responsibilities of the division. You will spend a 1–2-week rotation in all 6 sections of the division to experience the key tasks performed by each of the following sections: Registration, Examination, Audit, Outreach, Shared Services, and Investigations. You will assist staff with reviewing Franchise, Investment Advisor, and Broker-Dealer registrant applications, investigations, the audit review process, investor education and/or special projects relative to the SRF strategic plan.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Continuing college student majoring in Business, Finance, Economics, Criminal Justice with business coursework, Accounting or related major(s) are preferred
- Graduating between December 2027 - May 2028
- Ability to work 40 hours per week in a hybrid work environment from May through August 2027; required to work in the office a minimum of 2 days per week
- Self-motivated looking to add value to the division
- Strong analytical ability
- Critical thinking skills
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to clearly document work
- Curiosity
- Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, and general computer aptitude

Contingent on business needs at the completion of the summer internship, the division may offer part-time work hours during the semester to continuing students or offer a full-time permanent position following the intern’s graduation.
