Our Key Programs and Services
Foster Family Program: Recruiting, training, certification, and support for short-term and long-term foster parents for children referred by social services.
Extended Foster Care Program: Help support older youth and transition-age adolescents develop life skills and economic independence.
Outpatient Counseling: Sliding-scale mental health therapy for children, adults, and families dealing with behavioral, school, or adjustment challenges.
Safe Place/Youth Services: Support and outreach for runaway or at-risk youth to prevent long-term institutional placement.
Position Highlights
- Direct Field Experience: Build foundational clinical skills in crisis intervention, foster care, program evaluation, and community outreach.
- Structured Learning: Structured training and weekly clinical supervision under licensed professionals.
- Comprehensive Exposure: Work across three core agency branches: Foster Care Services, Youth Crisis and Intervention (Runaway & Homeless Youth), and Mental Health Counseling Services.
About the Role
As an MSW Intern, you will turn theoretical frameworks into practice. You will serve as a frontline contact for runaway, homeless, and high-risk youth, learning how to perform crisis stabilization, clinical intakes, and resource coordination. Simultaneously, you will support NCFC’s Foster Care and Mental Health Counseling programs through applicant file reviews, educational presentations, and community outreach. This role balances direct client contact, community engagement and foster recruitment, and clinical training and supervision.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Enrolled in an accredited Master of Social Work (MSW) program.
Compensation & Logistics
- Compensation: $18.00/hour
- Location: Walnut Creek, CA with occasional field and community work across the East Bay.
