Building Trades Teacher

Job Duties

To provide effective Career and Technical instruction in the assigned trade area; to assist assigned students to complete the required competencies for that trade area; demonstrate effective classroom or lab management; ensure that the lab is operated in compliance with all aspect of safety management; and to maintain accurate and current students records for the assigned student.

 

Minimum Qualifications

The demonstrated ability to engage students in one-on-one teaching and work with students and inmate aides in a classroom/Lab environment. The demonstrated ability to maintain accurate records; Knowledge and experience of policy and procedure governing adult education. Must possess working knowledge of basic adult education field, adult literacy, and computer software appropriate for program needs. Experience in maintaining classroom, equipment, and inventories; Demonstrate competency in the related field of current trade licensure.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience: Must have at least two years' full-time or 2000 hours of verifiable experience in the last five years in all four specific areas (electricity, plumbing, masonry, and carpentry) for a teaching certificate.                   

License: Must possess a DPOR Trade License in two specified area/field (electricity, plumbing) issued by Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR). Must be eligible for a teaching certificate by the Department of Education.


If you do not currently hold a teachers/trade license from the Department of Education (DOE):                                                                                                      1. You must submit all documentation for your provisional license to the licensure designee for Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) during the first 90 days of employment.
2. Obtaining a provisional license within the 1-year probationary period is employee’s responsibility and is required to continuing employment at the Department of Corrections (DOC).                                                                          3. Be eligible for Reciprocity if has a current, out-of-state teaching license with a comparable endorsement and without any deficiencies, actions, investigations, etc. against it.
