CSA and Board Coordinator

Status: Part-time employee

Location: Hybrid (70% remote and 30% in-person in Stockton)

Hours: 15 hours per week

Compensation: $25 per hour

Length of role: 9 months (with possibility for extension)

About the Black Urban Farmers Association 

The Black Urban Farmers Association (BUFA) is a Stockton-based nonprofit increasing access to pesticide-free, locally grown produce in underserved communities while promoting plant-based nutrition, cultural food traditions, and community wellness. Founded in 2015, BUFA operates a regenerative farm and CSA program delivering weekly produce boxes, with crop selection reflecting the culinary heritage of African American and broader BIPOC communities. Beyond food production, BUFA runs education and wellness programming for youth and seniors, and is working toward a permanent, expanded farm and community wellness center in Stockton.


Position overview 

The CSA and Board Coordinator provides a dedicated point person to BUFA’s CSA program and supports the coordination of board and advisory meetings. This role blends hands-on program coordination (subscriber communication, tracking, logistics) with meeting and governance support (agendas, materials, minutes, memos). It’s a strong fit for someone early in their career -- including current students -- who wants real nonprofit operations experience with direct exposure to board processes and program management.

Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office  and Google Suite (i.e. Calendar, Docs, Sheets)
  • Comfortable handling confidential board and organizational information with discretion
  • Genuine interest in BUFA’s mission

Preferred qualifications: 

  • Stockton-area resident
  • Experience supporting meetings, taking minutes or coordinating logistics
  • Experience with subscription, membership or customer-communication programs (CSA, box subscriptions, retail, etc).
  • Pursuing or holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Studies, Environmental Studies, Sustainable Agriculture, Nonprofit Management  or a related field.

Duties and responsibilities:

Board meeting coordination 

  • Schedule and maintain calendar invitations for monthly board meetings and quarterly Expansion Project advisory meetings
  • Prepare and distribute agendas and materials in advance
  • Attend meetings on the first Monday of every month to document notes and outcomes
  • Track action items and follow up on outstanding items
  • Organize and maintain digital files, records, and systems for internal and external use.

CSA program coordination

  • Manage subscriber communication (sign-ups, renewals, participation tracking) and maintain CSA program tracking system
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for addressing questions, resolving routine issues, and collecting feedback.  
  • Send members brief updates on box contents and any pickup changes
  • Lead membership recruitment and retention through outreach, marketing, and promotional efforts (email, social media, flyers)
  • Coordinate logistics for weekly box pickup/delivery and maintain relationships with pickup site partners. 
  • Flag capacity, distribution, or fulfillment issues to the ED early
